For Airports & Malls

Artificial trees for airports and malls are large-scale faux specimens specified to be read from across a concourse or an atrium floor, to take daily contact from thousands of people and to be serviced without closing the building. Commercial-scale pieces are quoted, with freight, crating, lead time and site access planned per order, which is how a delivery to a terminal dock or a mall service entrance actually gets scheduled.

Our position on fire documentation. Eververda publishes a fire figure only where documentation exists for that specific piece, and describes nothing as "fire rated". On a commercial quote we establish the occupancy, the adopted code edition and what your authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) will accept as documentation, in writing, before the order. Where no documented route exists for a piece, we say so and set out the alternatives. We do not claim a certificate for any product.

How far away will people actually be standing?

In a hotel lobby most people pass within a few metres of a feature tree. In a concourse, a centre court or a museum atrium the tree is usually seen from well past 10 metres: across a walkway, from an upper balcony, from a queue line. Past that distance normal vision no longer resolves leaf-level detail, so canopy silhouette, colour mass and proportion against the ceiling carry the design. Weight the brief toward form over close-up realism, and where part of a venue does put people close to the tree, such as a seating area or queue rail, apply the closer-range guidance in For Hotels & Lobbies or For Retail to that zone.

Which species and sizes suit public-realm scale?

This collection holds listings that reach 11.5 ft and above: curved-trunk palms up to 20 ft, banyan and ficus at 13 ft and beyond, cherry blossom at 10 to 15 ft and taller, olive, ginkgo, pine and cedar, many on fiberglass, steel-frame or natural-wood trunks. Entry pricing is open on some species; others are quote-priced because canopy spread and trunk configuration move the number too much for a flat price to be honest. Anything quoted is confirmed in writing before you commit. Browse Large Artificial Trees.

What happens when thousands of people walk past every day?

A tree in a transit concourse is leaned on, brushed by luggage and trolleys and grabbed by children. Respond in the specification: keep low, easily gripped foliage out of the reachable zone, favour a canopy that starts above head height in high-contact positions, and confirm the anchoring copes with incidental sideways load, not just static weight. Ask how a spot repair works, whether damaged foliage swaps without taking the tree apart, and budget for occasional repair as a normal line item. A large canopy is also a physical obstruction, so coordinate footprint and spread with the venue's wayfinding and security teams before ordering; clearances around exits, signs and cameras are set by the operator and the AHJ, not by a rule of thumb.

How does an order actually get placed at this scale?

Rarely by a facilities manager clicking add to cart. The buyer is usually a general contractor, a design-build team or an FF&E procurement group working from an architect's package, with the tree as one line inside a larger fit-out, often delivered in stages tied to construction milestones. Confirm early who signs for delivery on site, which is usually the contractor's team rather than the venue's.

Frequently asked questions

What fire documentation will airports and malls ask for?

These are public venues where large numbers of people gather, typically treated as assembly occupancies, so a landlord's risk team, the project's fire consultant and the AHJ often each want to see documentation. Ask every supplier what exists for the specific product, traceable to what ships, and put whatever you receive in front of the fire consultant and AHJ. What applies depends on the occupancy, the code edition your jurisdiction has adopted and your AHJ, who decides what is acceptable. In the United States, the International Fire Code accepts either NFPA 701 (Test Method 1 or 2) or NFPA 289 (20 kW ignition source, 100 kW maximum heat release rate) for artificial vegetation, at Section 807.4.1 from the 2018 edition onward and Section 806.2 in the 2015 edition, which some jurisdictions still run. In Ontario, Article 2.3.2.1 of the Ontario Fire Code (O. Reg. 213/07) requires decorative materials to meet CAN/ULC-S109 in listed locations, a lobby or exit among them, but the Code does not name artificial vegetation, so applying it to a tree rests on a broad reading. Outside Ontario, confirm the code in force with your AHJ. We publish a fire figure only where documentation exists for that specific piece, and we do not claim a certificate for any product. See fire documentation for commercial artificial greenery.

How do you clean a large tree in a building that never closes?

You schedule around it. A 24-hour venue needs an agreed night or low-traffic slot for lift access, signed off by the operator's security and operations teams, because a lift on a live public floor is a hazard to everyone else. A venue with fixed hours can usually clean during the overnight closure. Put the access window in the specification, not after the tree ships.
