Will it look real up close?
From a couple of metres it passes without effort, and the natural wood trunk carries most of that. Standing right over it, the red maple and red cypress options give themselves away sooner than the greens, because real autumn foliage is never one flat colour.
Where does this work best?
On a TV cabinet or beside an entrance, at roughly the height where the layered pads read correctly. Outdoor use is listed, though a covered terrace suits it considerably better than an open one.
Does it need any maintenance?
Dust it. That is the entire routine. Nothing about the piece changes with the seasons, which is either the appeal or the drawback depending on whether you wanted a plant or wanted the look of one.
