Golden cane is the palm most people picture when they picture a palm indoors: multiple slim trunks, arching fronds, and a canopy that spreads wider than it is tall at the top. It's also the palm that most often disappoints in artificial form, because the fronds are long and thin and a cheap version droops. This one is built with that in mind.

A palm's fronds arch outward and upward from the crown, so it needs more headroom than a broadleaf tree of the same height. Subtract two feet from your ceiling before choosing.

A live areca is cheaper and genuinely achievable in a bright room. The artificial case gets stronger the taller you go, because a 9 ft live palm indoors is close to impossible in this climate.
What arrives in the box, and what do I have to do to it?
Every tree on this site ships compressed. The branches are folded in against the trunk so the box survives transit, and it will come out of that box looking flatter and thinner than the photographs. Opening it out by hand is not an optional finishing touch — it is the difference between a tree that reads as real and one that reads as a prop. Work from the lowest branches upward, pull each stem away from its neighbour, and give the leaves individual angles rather than a uniform fan.
Palm fronds need a different technique from a broadleaf tree. Each frond has a central spine and paired leaflets that arrive pressed flat together; separating the leaflets along the spine, one frond at a time, is what makes the difference. On the 9 ft this is genuinely a long job and worth doing over an evening rather than in one sitting.
A 9 ft tree is a two-person job to move and to stand up. Plan the position before you unpack it.

Which artificial palm looks most like a real one indoors?
Golden cane, by a distance, and for a specific reason: it is a clumping palm with several slim trunks, so the artificial version does not need to fake a single thick trunk, which is where most faux palms fail. Areca and golden cane are the same plant under two names. Avoid single-trunk artificial palms indoors unless the trunk is genuinely textured, because a smooth moulded palm trunk is the most obvious tell in the whole category.
Should I buy one palm or two?
Two if they are flanking something symmetrical — a doorway, a fireplace, a bed, a reception desk. One if it is going in a corner. The practical argument for ordering the pair together is colour: artificial foliage varies between production batches, and two trees bought months apart frequently do not match. Can an artificial palm go on a patio or by a pool?
