Benefits & Features

Realistic detailing. Hand-set, multi-tone foliage on a natural or fibreglass-reinforced trunk, built to read as real from across a room.

Low maintenance. No watering, feeding, pruning or repotting. A light dusting every few months is the entire care routine.

Materials. No soil, no pollen and no sap.

Built for commercial use. Sized and specified for lobbies, restaurants, offices and event spaces.

Shipping & Delivery

Made to order. Larger trees are built after your order is confirmed, so allow the lead time set out in our Shipping policy rather than next-day dispatch.

Freight for oversized pieces. Tall trees and multi-unit orders ship by freight and we will arrange a delivery window with you.

Unboxing. Foliage is compressed in transit and will look flat on arrival. Bend the branches outward from the bottom up and fan the foliage, ten to fifteen minutes per large tree. This is normal, not damage.

Returns & Warranty

Return unused items in their original packaging within the period set out in our Returns policy. Because foliage is shaped by hand after unboxing, a fanned-out tree can still be returned, just repack it carefully.

Products are covered against manufacturing defects in construction, trunk mounting and foliage attachment. See our Returns policy for the period. Gradual fading from prolonged direct sun is not covered, including on UV-stabilised items. UV treatment slows fading, it does not stop it.

Sizing Help

Measure your ceiling height and subtract at least 30cm so the canopy is not compressed against the ceiling. For a room corner, 1.8m to 2.4m usually reads well.

For double-height lobbies and atriums, go taller than instinct suggests, because undersized trees disappear in large volumes. Unsure? Send us your dimensions before ordering and we will tell you honestly which size fits.

Product Description

Short answer: a single 7 ft spiral-cut faux boxwood in a pot. It is an entrance piece — the shape only works flanking a door, a gate or a set of steps, and it almost always wants a second one opposite. We recommend covered outdoor placement, or indoors.

A spiral topiary is a formal object. It reads as deliberate landscaping rather than as a plant, which is precisely the point — nobody mistakes a spiral boxwood for something that grew that way, and that honesty is why it works in artificial form better than a naturalistic tree does. You are not asking the viewer to believe it is real. You are asking them to read it as topiary.

It follows that symmetry matters more here than anywhere else in the catalogue. One spiral beside a door reads as an error. Two, matched, read as intent. If you are buying this, buy two, and buy them in the same order for the same batch-matching reason that applies to paired palms.

On outdoor placement. The foliage is designed to hold its colour for long-lasting outdoor use. On a south-facing porch through a Canadian summer, expect visible lightening by the third season. Under a porch roof or on a north-facing entrance it holds far longer. That is the expectation to plan around.

Artificial spiral topiary, or a live one?

This topiary Live spiral boxwood
Clipping None Two to three times a year, by someone who can cut a spiral
Winter in Canada No effect Winter burn and desiccation on exposed sites
Box blight Immune A live risk, and it kills the plant and the shape together
Cost at 7 ft Paid once Paid again, plus years of growing to reach that height
Time to look right Out of the box Several years of training
Failure mode Colour lightens in direct sun Death, and the shape cannot be recovered

Topiary is the strongest artificial case in the whole category. A clipped spiral is already a geometric, uniform, unnatural object, so the artificial version is not pretending to be something it is not — and it cannot get blight.

What arrives in the box, and what do I have to do to it?

A spiral topiary needs far less fluffing than a tree — the shape is the product and it arrives formed. What it does need is the spiral aligned: the foliage compresses in transit and the gap between the coils closes up. Work around the spiral from the base, pulling the foliage back to open the gap evenly.

At 7 ft in a pot this is heavy and top-shaped. Position it before you finish unpacking, and if it is going outdoors on an exposed porch, weight the pot — a spiral catches wind like a sail.

Inspect the pot and the trunk before you accept delivery, and photograph anything damaged before you unpack further.

Who should not buy this?

  • Full-exposure outdoor placement without accepting fade. On a south-facing porch, plan on visible lightening within two to three seasons.
  • Buying one. Spirals want pairs. A single one beside a door looks like the other one is missing.
  • Exposed, windy entrances, as supplied. Add ballast to the pot — a spiral catches wind like a sail.
  • Anyone who wants it to look like a real plant. It is not trying to. It is trying to look like topiary, which is a different job.

Common questions

Do artificial topiaries look convincing outdoors?

More convincing than artificial trees do, for a counter-intuitive reason: a real topiary is already a clipped, uniform, geometrically regular object, so the uniformity that betrays most artificial foliage is correct here. What gives an artificial topiary away is colour rather than form — a single flat saturated green with no variation between the sunlit and shaded faces. Positioning it where light falls across it rather than flatly onto it helps a great deal.

How long will it last outside in Canada?

It depends mainly on hours of direct sun and whether the piece is under cover. A north-facing or roofed entrance will hold colour for many seasons. A south or west-facing unprotected porch is the hard case, and that is where lightening becomes noticeable by the third summer. Winter is not the problem; sun is.

Should I buy one or two spiral topiaries?

Two, in almost every case. The spiral is a formal, symmetrical shape and formal symmetrical shapes read as incomplete on their own. The exception is a single spiral used as a full stop at the end of a path or in a corner of a courtyard, where it is doing a different job. If you are flanking anything — a door, steps, a gate — buy the pair and order them together so they match.

Can I put it indoors?

Yes, and indoors is the placement with no fade question at all. A 7 ft spiral works in an entrance hall, a stairwell landing or either side of a fireplace, and it suits formal and Mediterranean interiors better than modern minimalist ones. Check your ceiling first: 7 ft of topiary under an 8 ft ceiling is very tight.

Why Choose This Piece

What separates it from a generic artificial plant

Hand-set foliage

Leaves are layered by hand in varying tones, because real foliage is never one flat shade of green.

Real trunk construction

Natural wood or reinforced fibreglass trunks, depending on the tree.

Built for real conditions

UV-stabilised options are intended for sun, chlorine and salt air, conditions that are hard on living planting. UV treatment slows fading; it does not stop it.

Sized for commercial spaces

Sized and specified for hotel lobbies, restaurants, offices and event spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How realistic does this actually look?

From arm's length it is difficult to distinguish from a living tree. The trunk construction and multi-tone hand-set foliage do most of that work. Up close, under direct inspection, you will be able to tell. We would rather say that plainly than overpromise.

What size should I order for my space?

Measure your ceiling height and subtract at least 30cm. For a standard room corner, 1.8m to 2.4m usually reads well. For lobbies and atriums, go taller than instinct suggests, because undersized trees vanish in large volumes. Send us your dimensions and we will advise before you order.

Can I use this outdoors?

Only if it is from our UV-resistant range. Check the product title and tags. Indoor-rated pieces can go under permanent cover, but will fade faster in direct sun. UV stabilisation slows fading substantially; it does not defy physics.

Does it need any maintenance?

No watering, feeding, pruning or repotting. Dust settles on foliage the way it settles on a bookshelf, so a light dusting or gentle wipe every few months keeps it sharp. That is the entire care routine.

Why does it look flat when it arrives?

Foliage is compressed for transit, which is expected, not damage. Starting from the lowest branches and working up, bend each branch outward and fan the foliage until the canopy fills evenly. Large trees take ten to fifteen minutes and it is worth the time.

Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?

Yes. Volume pricing is available for designers, hospitality groups and commercial fit-outs, along with custom heights and finish matching across multiple sites. See our Wholesale & Trade page to start an enquiry.
