Benefits & Features

Realistic detailing. Hand-set, multi-tone foliage on a natural or fibreglass-reinforced trunk, built to read as real from across a room.

Low maintenance. No watering, feeding, pruning or repotting. A light dusting every few months is the entire care routine.

Materials. No soil, no pollen and no sap.

Built for commercial use. Sized and specified for lobbies, restaurants, offices and event spaces.

Shipping & Delivery

Made to order. Larger trees are built after your order is confirmed, so allow the lead time set out in our Shipping policy rather than next-day dispatch.

Freight for oversized pieces. Tall trees and multi-unit orders ship by freight and we will arrange a delivery window with you.

Unboxing. Foliage is compressed in transit and will look flat on arrival. Bend the branches outward from the bottom up and fan the foliage, ten to fifteen minutes per large tree. This is normal, not damage.

Returns & Warranty

Return unused items in their original packaging within the period set out in our Returns policy. Because foliage is shaped by hand after unboxing, a fanned-out tree can still be returned, just repack it carefully.

Products are covered against manufacturing defects in construction, trunk mounting and foliage attachment. See our Returns policy for the period. Gradual fading from prolonged direct sun is not covered, including on UV-stabilised items. UV treatment slows fading, it does not stop it.

Sizing Help

Measure your ceiling height and subtract at least 30cm so the canopy is not compressed against the ceiling. For a room corner, 1.8m to 2.4m usually reads well.

For double-height lobbies and atriums, go taller than instinct suggests, because undersized trees disappear in large volumes. Unsure? Send us your dimensions before ordering and we will tell you honestly which size fits.

Product Description

A faux Dracaena marginata on a heavy-duty weighted base, two heights at 130 cm and 150 cm (roughly 4.3 ft and 4.9 ft). This is the thin-cane, red-edged form most people picture when they hear the word dracaena — with PE leaves, a natural wood-textured trunk, and bendable wire branches you shape by hand.

A real marginata is one of the more drought-tolerant houseplants sold in Canada, and its best-known failure mode is not death but cosmetic: brown, crispy leaf tips, usually from fluoride or chlorine in municipal tap water rather than neglect. The artificial version keeps the elegant, spiky silhouette without the water chemistry ever mattering.

Construction is PE leaves over a natural wood-textured trunk, with bendable wire branches for shaping and a heavy-duty weighted base built to be tip-resistant around kids and pets. That base is a real, named component, not a vague stability claim — and on a tall, slim-caned tree like a marginata, low-set weight is exactly where stability should come from.

Which of the two sizes should I buy?

Height Ceiling it suits What it does in the room
130 cm (4.3 ft) Any Corner or desk-adjacent plant; the smaller of the two.
150 cm (4.9 ft) 8 ft Reads as a proper floor tree rather than a tall plant.

Measure against the centimetre figures — 130 cm and 150 cm — when planning your spot, and remember a marginata's presence comes as much from its spiky crown as its height.

Artificial Dracaena marginata, or a real one?

This tree Live Dracaena marginata
Light required None Bright indirect light preferred, but tolerates lower light better than most houseplants
Drought tolerance Irrelevant Genuinely high; missing a watering is rarely fatal
Common cosmetic problem None — colour is fixed Brown, crispy leaf tips from fluoride or chlorine in tap water, a well-known marginata complaint
Cost, year one One-time purchase A young specimen, plus a pot
Cost, year five Nothing further Occasional repotting as the cane grows taller
Trunk detail Smooth, moulded, wood-textured surface Genuine bark-like ringing where each year's leaves dropped

The honest tell for a live Dracaena marginata is those brown leaf tips — use filtered or distilled water and they mostly stop. If you are willing to do that much, a real marginata is a perfectly reasonable buy at a fraction of this tree's price. The case for the artificial one here rests on the tap-water problem never happening at all, and on the cane never thinning or leaning as a real one ages.

What arrives in the box, and what do I have to do to it?

Assembly takes minutes, with bendable wire branches for final shaping. The tree arrives neatly packaged with the branches compressed for transit, so set the weighted base first, then work the branches outward and give the leaves individual angles before judging the finished shape.

When your delivery arrives, check the base and the trunk before unpacking further, and photograph any transit damage straight away — it makes a replacement quick to arrange.

Who should not buy this?

  • Direct outdoor sun. This is an indoor tree; for patios and porches in open sun, choose a UV-rated model instead.
  • Someone who is only avoiding a live marginata because of brown leaf tips. That problem is usually fixable with filtered water rather than a reason to give up on the live plant entirely — a real Dracaena marginata costs a fraction of either size sold here.

Common questions

Is this actually Dracaena marginata, or just a generic dracaena?

It is modelled on Dracaena marginata specifically — the thin-cane form with narrow, often red-edged leaves, distinct from the broader-leaved corn-plant style of dracaena sold elsewhere on this site. If you are matching a specific look, marginata is the airy, architectural one: slim canes topped with spiky rosettes rather than a dense column of foliage.

Why do real Dracaena marginata leaves get brown tips?

It is one of the most commonly reported problems with live marginata, and it is almost always fluoride or chlorine sensitivity rather than a sign the plant is dying. Tap water in many Canadian municipalities carries enough fluoride to cause tip browning over time in marginata specifically, more than in most other houseplants. Switching to filtered, distilled, or rain water and trimming the existing brown tips off usually resolves it within a few months of new growth. It is a cosmetic issue, not a fatal one, which is why we would not talk anyone out of a live marginata over it.

Is the “wood-textured” trunk made of actual wood?

No — the trunk is textured to look like wood rather than cut from it, built from the same PE the leaves use. The texturing gives the cane its bark-like surface at a glance; up close, a real marginata's trunk carries ringed scarring where old leaves dropped, which is the one detail no moulded trunk reproduces.

What does the weighted base actually protect against?

The heavy-duty weighted base is built to be tip-resistant, specifically for homes with kids or pets — it is meant to shrug off a bump, a passing dog, or an over-enthusiastic toddler rather than a hard shove. On a tall, slim tree like a marginata, that low-set weight is what keeps everyday contact from becoming a topple.

Why Choose This Piece

What separates it from a generic artificial plant

Hand-set foliage

Leaves are layered by hand in varying tones, because real foliage is never one flat shade of green.

Real trunk construction

Natural wood or reinforced fibreglass trunks, depending on the tree.

Built for real conditions

UV-stabilised options are intended for sun, chlorine and salt air, conditions that are hard on living planting. UV treatment slows fading; it does not stop it.

Sized for commercial spaces

Sized and specified for hotel lobbies, restaurants, offices and event spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How realistic does this actually look?

From arm's length it is difficult to distinguish from a living tree. The trunk construction and multi-tone hand-set foliage do most of that work. Up close, under direct inspection, you will be able to tell. We would rather say that plainly than overpromise.

What size should I order for my space?

Measure your ceiling height and subtract at least 30cm. For a standard room corner, 1.8m to 2.4m usually reads well. For lobbies and atriums, go taller than instinct suggests, because undersized trees vanish in large volumes. Send us your dimensions and we will advise before you order.

Can I use this outdoors?

Only if it is from our UV-resistant range. Check the product title and tags. Indoor-rated pieces can go under permanent cover, but will fade faster in direct sun. UV stabilisation slows fading substantially; it does not defy physics.

Does it need any maintenance?

No watering, feeding, pruning or repotting. Dust settles on foliage the way it settles on a bookshelf, so a light dusting or gentle wipe every few months keeps it sharp. That is the entire care routine.

Why does it look flat when it arrives?

Foliage is compressed for transit, which is expected, not damage. Starting from the lowest branches and working up, bend each branch outward and fan the foliage until the canopy fills evenly. Large trees take ten to fifteen minutes and it is worth the time.
